Exceptionnally rare and highly sought after art deco modernist glass and chrome mood lamp manufactured by the famous and short lived Maison Desny Company around 1930.
Maison Desny favorite´s material was glass. Art Deco was not only an era of progressive ideas in terms of decorative arts but was probably THE era where architecture lighting and architecture of light took birth.
All lamps produced from 1925 - 1935 were not only meant as pure source of lighting but were meant to enhance pr emphasize the mood of a room with sometimes very spectacular effects.
This lamp is probably one the best example being not only a mood light but also a sculpture of glass at the same time.
This lamp is constructed out of thick frosted peach coloured glass plates stacked along an chromed stem and topped off by a square chrome platep. Glass of this quality was only produced by Saint Gobain and was very often used by the avant garde designer of the time to manufacture high end furniture.
Different models of this lamp were manufactured. The changing attributes would be colour of glass (white, blue and amber), faceted or not faceted base, slanted or straight faces of the glass sheets.
One similar model was valued at a 2005 Paris Sotheby´s auction for 5000-7000€.
